Mont Saint-Cyr Lookout: Cahors seen from above in its Lot loop
The most beautiful viewpoint 140 meters above the monk and nun tiled roofs
When you are in the narrow streets of Old Cahors, you sometimes forget that the city is built on a peninsula almost entirely surrounded by the Lot. From the top of Mont Saint-Cyr, the plunging view of the river loop is spectacular.
Understand the unique geography of Cahors at a glance
Perched at an altitude of 265 meters just south of the city, the Mont Saint-Cyr lookout offers a natural balcony over the horseshoe-shaped meander. From here, you can literally trace your walk with your finger: you can clearly distinguish the historical quarter of rue du Château du Roi on the right, the two Romanesque domes of the Cathedral in the center, boulevard Gambetta cutting the peninsula in two, and Pont Valentré to the west.
Climb on foot (for walkers) or by car (effortlessly)
If you like walking, the climb on foot from Pont Louis-Philippe or the Cabessut quarter is a great little hike of about 35 minutes (bring sneakers, it climbs steeply through the Causse oaks!). If you prefer to save your legs, you can drive up in just 7 minutes and park in the free parking lot at the very top, 30 meters from the railing.
Free access and free parking at the top 24/7. Panoramic orientation board and shaded benches.
Take a bottle of wine or two takeaway coffees and head up at the end of the day: it's a magical spot, often very quiet, to watch the city light up.
