Local shops: bakery, covered market & shopping on foot
Where to get your warm croissants in the morning and do all your shopping on foot from 98 rue du Château du Roi
Everything is within walking distance of the building: all-butter pastries and sourdough bread from the famous Béziat Frères bakery, the artisans of the covered market, the mini-market open late, Malbec wine shops and pharmacies.
1. Your fresh bread & morning croissants: Béziat Frères bakery and patisserie (6 min on foot · 450 m)
At 18 boulevard Léon Gambetta, Béziat Frères is a true gourmet institution in Cahors. It is our favourite place to pick up, from 7 am, a crusty traditional baguette, special sourdough breads, all-butter croissants and pains au chocolat still warm from the oven, as well as excellent fine pastries and local specialities (such as the Quercy apple Pastis or the coque des rois). Open all day from Tuesday to Saturday, 7 am to 7:30 pm, and on Sunday from 7 am to 1 pm (closed on Monday).
2. Mini-market & everyday shopping: Carrefour City & town-centre grocers (4 to 5 min on foot)
No need to take the car to fill the studio fridge: Carrefour City (14-16 boulevard Léon Gambetta, 5 min on foot) is open 7 days a week, with long opening hours. For a quick top-up 3 minutes from the door, you will also find small neighbourhood grocers along rue Nationale and rue Georges Clemenceau.
3. Cheese, butcher-charcuterie & greengrocer: the Cahors covered market (4 min on foot · 350 m)
Under the beautiful iron market hall on Place Galdemar (just behind the cathedral), the stallholders welcome you from Tuesday to Sunday: cheesemongers (to choose farmhouse Rocamadour AOP cheeses at different stages of ripeness), Quercy butchers and charcutiers (duck breast, confit, dry sausage, truffle pâté), greengrocers, bakers and seafood stalls.
4. Wine shops & Lot specialities to take home (5 to 7 min on foot)
To take home a fine bottle of Cahors Malbec or a box of local produce, step into the Villa Cahors Malbec (Place François Mitterrand, 7 min on foot, advice from winegrowers and sales at cellar-door prices) or the wine shops and delicatessens on Boulevard Gambetta and rue Nationale.
5. Pharmacy, newsagent, tobacconist, cash machines & launderette (3 to 5 min on foot)
If you need anything during your stay, several pharmacies are 4 minutes away on foot (Place Chapou near the cathedral, rue Nationale and Boulevard Gambetta). On Boulevard Gambetta you will also find cash machines, the Maison de la Presse newsagent and bookshop, tobacconists and a launderette within walking distance in the old town.
Béziat Frères bakery: Tuesday to Saturday 7 am – 7:30 pm, Sunday 7 am – 1 pm (closed on Monday). Carrefour City Gambetta: open 7 days a week. Cahors covered market: Tuesday to Saturday 7:30 am – 1 pm and 3:30 – 7 pm, Sunday 9 am – 12:30 pm.
For your first morning at the studio, take the little 5-minute walk to the Béziat bakery: their all-butter croissants and sourdough bread with a Dolce Gusto coffee in the peace of 98 rue du Château du Roi are the perfect start to the day!
