The Grand Market of Place Chapou (Wednesday & Saturday) & Les Halles

One of the most beautiful markets in the Southwest, a 4-minute walk from your door

If you are here on a Wednesday or Saturday morning, do not miss the market at the foot of the Cathedral! It is the gourmet meeting place for all Cahors locals, and you can bring everything back on foot in 4 minutes.

PLEASE NOTE: the market has been moved to allées Fénelon, in the city center. On boulevard Gambetta, spot the statue of Léon Gambetta: the relocated market is right behind it!

The unique atmosphere of Wednesday and Saturday mornings at Place Chapou

From 07:30, small producers from the causses and the valley set up their stalls against the stone walls of Saint-Étienne Cathedral. It's colorful, smells of sourdough bread, herbs and goat cheese, and everyone takes the time to chat and offer samples of their products.

What to bring back to the studio for your aperitif or lunch?

Pick up a few small farm-fresh Rocamadour AOP goat cheeses (delightfully creamy!), fragrant Quercy IGP melon in summer, dry sausage or dried duck breast, gingerbread with chestnut honey, Périgord/Quercy walnuts and a slice of Pastis quercynois (the traditional cake with thinly stretched apples flavored with plum brandy). In winter (December to February), it is also the peak season for Quercy Black Truffle!

The covered market Les Halles de Cahors (open Tuesday to Sunday)

If you stay outside Wednesday and Saturday, rest assured: right behind the Cathedral, Les Halles de Cahors (market hall built in 1865 by architect Pinochet) are open Tuesday to Saturday from 7:30 to 13:00 and 15:30 to 19:00, Sunday from 9:00 to 12:30, closed Monday.

Grand open-air market: Wednesday and Saturday from 07:30 to 13:00 (Place Chapou). Covered market Halles: Tuesday to Saturday from 07:30 to 13:00 and from 15:30 to 19:00, Sunday from 09:00 to 12:30 (closed Monday).

Go there around 09:30 with your tote bag, do your market shopping, then sit on a terrace right next door with a hot coffee while the market is in full swing.
